lunar eclipse

Cloudy skies dashed the hopes of Malaysians nationwide who wanted to view the partial lunar eclipse last night.
Only Kelantan and parts of Malacca had clear skies to witness the event, said to be the first of two lunar eclipses this year.

The next total lunar eclipse, visible over North and South America, is scheduled to take place on Dec 21.

This eclipse is said to be a part of the Lunar Saros 120 series, repeating every 18 years and 10 days.
The last time it occurred was in June 1992. The eclipse will be repeated on July 6, 2028.

According to Nasa, the low hanging moon would appear "unnaturally large".

A low hanging moon will look magnified due to the illusion effect created when it beams through trees, buildings and other foreground objects. The reason for this is unknown.
The magnified appearance will be seen in various regions of the United States and Canada as well as parts of East Asia, India and Japan.
